Tokon Instructors
Head Coach - David Webb
Born on 29th August 1979, David Webb has always been involved in sport. However, in the early 1990's playing rugby for Bedford and football took a back seat to a new found passion: the martial arts and in particular Shotokan Karate. Introduced by his friend- Darren Adams, David began training in Shotokan Karate under the auspices of the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) and the expert tutelage of Linden Huckle, 4th Dan.
"As most people will tell you, Karate simply took over my life says David "I was literally following Linden around everywhere from day one and attended every demonstration, seminar or open course I could find and bought up every Karate video I could, I've never been much of a competitor but did get to represent the Southern region against the rest of England, Scotland and Wales in a few competitions under the guidance of Gary Harford and Mr Ohta. I think my best individual placing happened at a Funakoshi World Championships where I was disqualified for lack of control after 'splatting a big German' in the quarter final more...

Tokon Junior Assistant instructors
Every February and September a number of junior assistant instructors are chosen from the ranks of juniors enrolled at the Tokon Academy. The minimum requirement for junior assistants enrolled onto the Karate-do programme is 3rd Kyu (Brown belt) whereas junior assistants on our other programmes need no minimum grade to achieve the title. All junior assistants have the responsibility to keep order/charge during training and also deliver each classes warm up or may have the occasional coaching role. To achieve the rank of junior assistant instructor each junior must demonstrate
diligent effort, integrity and perseverance throughout their training at the Tokon Academy.
Karate junior assistant(s) - Adam Weeks
Adam is a very dedicated Karateka who started training at the Tokon Academy a little over two years ago and always trains extremely hard. Adam was the 2007 Tokon Academy Kumite Champion, is the current KombatClinic.com 3rd Kyu Kata Champion, was crowned the 2007 Tokon Academy student of the year and has held the rank of junior assistant instructor three times (Sept 2006, 2007 & 2008).
Karate junior assistant(s) - Ieuan Evans
Ieuan Evans is also very dedicated to his training. A competent junior Karateka Ieuan has very strong Kumite, a member of the Tokon Academy junior squad, Ieuan has demonstrated great ability at his past two grading examinations where he 'double-graded' both times. This is the first time Ieuan has become a junior assistant but deserves it totally.
Karate junior assistant(s) - Thomas Dedman
Probably the most committed junior currently training out of the Tokon Academy Thomas Dedman trains at all classes that his age and grade permits. Thomas originally came to the academy as a 4th Kyu from another dojo but soon asserted his position as a strong junior. Along with the 2006 Student of the year [Ben Tuck] Thomas is only the second junior to regain his place as a junior assistant and in turn holding the position for a full 12 months.
A multiple winner of the 'student of the month' award Thomas was the Tokon Academy Kata Champion in 2007 and was runner up at this years event loosing by 0.1 after drawing with the eventual champion- Ross Mackenzie.
Karate junior assistant(s) - Ben Jiggins
Only one of a few original junior students still raining at the Tokon Academy Ben is as keen as they come, with a brain like a sponge his knowledge for all this Karate/Submission wrestling is something to behold for someone of his age. Hoping to grade to Shodan in December of this year (2008) Ben has been a close candidate for student of the year for two years running. The way he is going he could make it three.

Submission wrestling junior assistant(s) - Thomas Dedman
Thomas is the very first junior to be awarded a junior assistant title on our submission wrestling programme and due to his total commitment to every part of his training at the Tokon Academy he is a very worthy wrestler. Part of the original group that started the junior submission wrestling programme at the Tokon Academy Thomas is currently graded to Beginner: Level two (orange t-shirt) but will be looking for promotion at the end of September 2008 at the next submission wrestling grading examination.
